Introduction

Project XEO was my first End of Year Project I had done at AIE. I teamed up with 5 other students with a 3 week time frame.
I loved the overall concept of a competitive arena action game where the players took control of space ships with the environment being heavily inspired by Tron.
Our team had completely lacked programmers for the project due to AIE not having enough students to fill the Mid-Year Programming course at the time. So I stepped up to code the game from scratch while simultaneously handling the Level Design and implementation of the 3D Art.
Roles for this Project:
-
Game Designer
-
Level Designer
-
Sole Gameplay Programmer / Technical Designer
Level Design Process
The first step in the Level Design was crafting an arena that supported fast paced gameplay. I was comfortable with this aspect of the game because of my background and extensive knowledge in competitive Counterstrike where I had to learn layouts and strategies based around those maps.
So I had a pretty clear idea of how to make the map for XEO large enough to give players enough space to maneuver around but also providing cover and obstacles for players to use to their advantage.
