PROJECT: PIT

About the Project

Project: Pit was actually for my narrative assessment at AIE, we had to make a game that told a story through the environmet and we were given about 3 weeks to do so.

So originally I did a small open world game, but I wasn't satisfied with that games direction, the story was way too vague and it was just overall boring to play.

I was getting tired of making gimmicky games with no real gameplay, it just wasn't my style. So I scrapped my original project 2 weeks into the assessment in favor of Project: Pit.

With 1 week left in the assessment I worked tirelessly to make an action game with some amount of replayability and staying true to the assessment.

I stayed up late most nights modelling every asset and polishing the gameplay, I wanted to make a game that made the player feel powerful using camera shake, particle effects and impactful audio.

The story with this project was that an engineering company was developing and prototyping robots for military use, so player's took control of one of these robots and they were being tested on their agility and accuracy with firearms.

This was also the project that inspired the Aesthetic of XEO. It was the striking lines across the environment and the Audio Visualizer that was always present and active in the background that really captured Adam's attention and wanted to make a similar game of sorts.

I really want to get around to re-building this project some day, I think it has potential if I had took it further and added some AI, it would most definitely be popular amongst speedrunners ahah.
